# 🪝 How to Create a News Hook for Journalist Outreach

A **news hook** is the timely story angle used for journalist outreach inside an OmniCampaign. It helps PodPitch understand why a journalist might cover the profile now.

A news hook is not a separate campaign, a list of broad keywords, or a general biography.

## What makes a strong news hook

A useful news hook is:

* Timely
* Specific
* Relevant to the profile's expertise
* Supported by facts
* Appropriate for the publications you want to reach
* Clear enough to understand in one sentence

## A simple structure

Try:

**What changed + why it matters + who is affected**

Examples:

* “New data shows small businesses are adopting AI faster than expected, changing how local firms compete.”
* “A new regulation is changing how independent healthcare practices protect patient data.”
* “Back-to-school costs are altering how families plan household budgets this year.”

Use examples only as a structure. Replace them with the profile's real, verifiable story.

## News hooks and the shared profile

The profile contains durable facts such as background, expertise, credentials, and approved links. The news hook contains the current journalist angle.

Do not add unsupported claims to make a hook sound more dramatic. A journalist should be able to verify the premise from the profile or supporting material.

## Match the hook to the right journalists

Use journalist targeting to find reporters and outlets covering the relevant topic. Review their recent work before allowing outreach.

A technology hook should not automatically go to every technology reporter. Check the reporter's beat, publication, location, and recent coverage where that information is available.

## Keep hooks current

Replace or pause a hook when:

* The event is no longer timely
* The data changed
* The announcement has already passed
* The profile can no longer support the claim
* The story is not producing relevant matches

After changing a hook, rewrite eligible pending journalist pitches and review them before automated sending resumes.
