🎯 How to Target Journalists Inside an OmniCampaign
Journalist targeting is configured inside an OmniCampaign. It determines which reporters and outlets PodPitch recommends for the campaign's news hook.
It does not control podcast or newsletter recommendations.
Start with a focused news hook
The hook should describe a timely, supportable story. Broad marketing language usually produces broad or weak matches.
Journalist targeting controls
Depending on the data and options available in the account, journalist targeting may include:
- Topic, beat, or recent coverage
- Country, region, state, or city
- Outlet type, such as online, print, radio, or television
- Language
- Monthly traffic or audience range
- Publication or article recency
- Categories or outlet exclusions
Use only the controls displayed in the current OmniCampaign. Do not promise a specific filter if it is not visible.
Review recent coverage
A matching category is only a starting point. Open the journalist record and review recent articles or work before sending.
Confirm that the reporter:
- Still works at the listed outlet
- Covers the relevant subject
- Has recent activity
- Is appropriate for the news hook
- Has not already been pitched for the same story
Exclude poor fits
Remove, skip, or exclude journalists and outlets that are not relevant. Provide a specific reason when PodPitch asks for feedback.
If the majority of recommendations are poor, keep the campaign Off while you narrow the news hook and targeting.
Save and verify
After saving changes, verify that future recommendations reflect the new settings. Treat contacts outside a saved hard filter as an issue to investigate rather than assuming PodPitch intentionally ignored the setting.
Targeting versus writing
Journalist targeting controls who is recommended. Writing settings control how the pitch is written.
Do not put publication-selection rules only in writing instructions, and do not use a signature or From-name setting to change the person being pitched.
